7 Summits dream still burns strong for Remy Kloos

Her attempt of the Everest / Lhotse double may have alluded her this year but South African climber Remy Kloos still intends to break records and achieve her dreams.

“Yes, my high-altitude dreams are as alive as ever. I’m still on track to become the youngest South African to climb the 7 summits. I still intend to do a back-to back summit of Everest and Lhotse, making me the first South African to do this. And I even have one or two more crazy big dreams to add… potentially… watch this space.

“Setbacks along the way are inevitable, but knowing this doesn’t make the heartache any easier. Not summiting Everest and Lhotse this year has shaken me up real good, but you know what, I’ll be back next year. My body temple was performing well up there in the ‘death zone’ 8000m, mind was strong, heart full of hope. This excites me. I know I am so capable.

“I still have no clue how I will pull these dreams of mine off, financially I need a miracle or two to work in my favour. But I will keep putting one step in front of the other. Climbing, climbing, progressing. Because at the end of the day, it is the summit that drives us, but the climb itself is what matters.”

“When you start living the life of your dreams, there will always be obstacles, doubters, mistakes and setbacks along the way. But with hard work, perseverance and self-belief there is no limit to what you can achieve.”- Roy Bennett
