An Everest update from a puzzled Gaz Jones – 9th May.
“There are significantly less ladders in the Khumbu in 2021.
“I counted 6 vs. the usual ~35 ladders.
“I haven’t heard a convincing reason as to why less, but what is a fact is it makes the route take much longer. Instead of a direct route through each obstacle, it means more descending, traversing and ascending.
“This means more distance and elevation needing to be covered, hence the route is taking almost twice as long this year!
“One more time through the Khumbu for the summit push.”
