Everest 2021 Update – Mike Posner – 4th May

An Everest Update from Grammy-nominated songwriter, poet, and artist Mike Posner.

“We are on our second to last acclimatization hike at Pumori Base Camp.

“We left Everest Base Camp and instead of going up to camp 1, @drjonkedski decided to avoid the crowds and take me up to Pumori Base Camp.

“It was a simple hike, not a climb to get there. We had a beautiful view of Ama Dablam, Nhupse, Lhotse, as well as Sagarmartha (Mt. Everest).

“These are some of the tallest and most majestic mountains in Planet Earth.

“As the day waned, we watched helicopters deliver supplies and fetch tired climbers from camp 2. Our buddy @dcsherpa joined us for dinner and a game of Ludo. My thin sleeping pad did little to comfort me from the sharp rocks below. I laid on my side and made my body match the contours of the rocks and got some sleep. When we first got there my head was pretty foggy but by the end of our second day there I felt fine.

“Next we’ll climb to camp 2 and touch camp 3 before resting and trying for the summit. I grossly underestimated the amount of sitting around I’d be doing on the project. Well over 90 percent of our time is spent waiting for our bodies to acclimatize and waiting for weather.

“I’ve already read two very thick books LOL (Shantaram and The Mountain Shadow). This is a mental marathon. It takes a lot of work to keep my motivation up and block out all the rumors that float around EBC.

“We’re still 3 weeks away from a possible summit bid. God willing, I’m climbing Everest to support the @detroitjusticecenter PLEASE DONATE…link below. KEEP GOING.”
