Seven Summit Treks & 14 Peaks Expedition Celebrate K2 Summit Success

In an extraordinary achievement on a rare August summit day, Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition have confirmed that their joint team reached the top of K2 on the morning of August 11, 2025.

The ascent comes during one of the most challenging K2 seasons in recent memory, with persistent jet stream winds limiting summit windows and keeping climbers in a prolonged state of readiness at Base Camp. Against the odds, the team seized a narrow opportunity and stood on the 8,611m peak — a testament to skill, teamwork, and resilience.

Summit Team:
Tao Hu (China)
Eduard Kubatov (Kyrgyz Republic) – No oxygen
Gulnur Tumbat (USA)
Zhang Qingliang (China)
Li Na (China)
Pasang Tenje Sherpa (Nepal) – No oxygen
Mingma Jangbu Sherpa (Nepal)
Pasang Sherpa (Nepal)
Sona Sherpa (Nepal)
Pasang Nurbu Sherpa (Nepal)

The team extended heartfelt thanks to Imagine Nepal and the rope-fixing crew for their vital role in opening the route to the summit, proving once again that K2’s successes are often shared achievements.

This year’s K2 climbs have been a battle against time and weather, with the peak’s notorious difficulty amplified by the season’s unpredictability. That makes this summit all the more special — a proud moment that places the Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expedition team firmly in the history books of the world’s second-highest mountain.
