Team Achieves August Summit of K2 in Challenging Season

A multinational climbing team has successfully reached the summit of K2 (8,611m) after one of the most testing seasons in recent memory. The group, led by renowned Nepalese climber Mingma Gyalje Sherpa (Mingma G) in collaboration with Imagine Nepal, Prakash Sherpa’s team from Alpinist Climber, Seven Summit Treks (SST), and lead IFMGA guide Vinayak Jay Malla from Elite Exped, stood on the top of the world’s second-highest mountain at 15:32 PKT on 11 August.

Persistent bad weather and dangerous snow conditions had forced many teams to abandon their attempts earlier in the season. The successful group waited for a narrow weather window before committing to the final push. Above Camp 4, heavy snow made rope fixing particularly difficult, but the combined efforts of climbers and guides secured the route to the summit.

The team members who reached the top were:

  • Kirsty Joan Mack

  • Charles Page

  • Vinayak Jay Malla

  • Phuri Kitar Sherpa

  • Nima Sherpa

All climbers have since begun their safe descent to Base Camp.

This year’s K2 season has been marked by extreme patience and resilience, with prolonged storms and unstable conditions testing even the most experienced mountaineers. The 11 August success stands out as one of the few summit achievements during a challenging summer in the Karakoram.
