Daily Dispatches – 30th May
As the curtain finally falls on the 2026 Everest spring season, attention remains focused on one small group of climbers still stranded high on the mountain.
Three members of the SummitClimb team — two foreign climbers and one Sherpa — remain at Camp 2, unable to leave after poor weather once again prevented helicopter access. According to expedition leader Dan Mazur, rescue pilots made multiple attempts to reach the camp today, but a stubborn cloud bank sitting directly above the Khumbu Icefall blocked all access despite clear blue skies both above and below it.
The stranded team are reported to be safe and in good spirits, although food supplies and fuel are beginning to run low. They have now moved their tent closer to the designated helicopter landing area in the hope that improving weather tomorrow will finally allow an evacuation.
It is a fittingly dramatic final chapter to a season that has delivered almost everything Everest can offer — record summit numbers, historic achievements, speed records, rescues, triumphs and tragedy.
While most climbers are already back in Kathmandu or heading home, Everest still has one last story to finish before the 2026 season can officially be put to bed. Everyone will now be hoping for clear skies and a safe flight out for the remaining Camp 2 team.
