Everest 2025 – Deaths

 

Unfortunately, with each Everest Season comes deaths from the multiple dangers on the mountain and this year there has been a no different

Here is a summary of Everest 2024 deaths from what we have seen.

1 – Ngima Dorji Sherpa, who was from Nepal’s remote Makalu region, died in early May of a brain hemorrhage while working at Mount Everest Base Camp. His employer, Seven Summits Treks, attempted a rescue, but he died before receiving further care.

2 – Pen Chhiri Sherpa died on May 4 after suffering a heart attack at Camp I at 19,900 feet. His employer, TAG Nepal, initiated a rescue, but Pen Chhiri died in Kathmandu.

3 – Phillip II Santiago from the Phillipines died of unknown causes while descending Everest with Nepali operator Snowy Horizons.

4 – Indian climber Subrata Ghosh, 45, from West Bengal, died near the Hillary Step while descending Everest. Ghosh summited late, around 2 p.m., and became exhausted during descent, showing signs of altitude sickness and refusing to move.

5. Over on Lhotse, Romanian Zsolt Vago, 48, died near the Lhotse Couloir.

6. Rakesh Kumar was climbing with Makalu Adventure when he died near the Yellow Band of Everest. He had earlier turned around from his summit attempt and instead of returning to Base Camp chose to stay high and attempt Lhotse.
