Manaslu Winter Summit Achieved
Spaniard Alex Txikon has become the first mountaineer to reach the true summit of Manaslu in Winter.
He was accompanied by 6 sherpas in the final push of his third winter attempt of the 8163m peak.
The team reached the summit on January 6th at around 9.30am Nepal time.
The Sherpa team members were Tenjen Sherpa (Lama), Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Mingtemba Sherpa, Chhepal Sherpa, Pemba Tasi Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa.
Alex was with Simone Moro during the climb this time, however Simone reportedly got a stomach problem, and had to withdrawal from the summit attempt. Moro returned to Kathmandu and is in good health.
Manaslu, the 8th highest mountain is well known for its tricky weather, loose snow, avalanche and super blowing wind.
