Nima the Youngest to Top Kanchenjunga
Eighteen-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa has become the youngest person to summit Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain at 8,586 meters.
He reached the peak at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, as reported by Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, head of the 14 Peaks Expedition.
Nima was accompanied by his climbing partner Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Russian climber Alina Pekova, and four Sherpa guides—Dendi Sherpa, Fura Tsering Sherpa, Phurba Kusang Sherpa, and Ang Tenji Sherpa. This achievement further cements his place in climbing history.
Sona Sherpa and his client Anja Blacha were reportedly on their way to the summit at the time of the announcement.
Last year, at the age of 17, Nima set records as the youngest person to climb K2 and to traverse from the summit of Mount Everest to Mount Lhotse. With his successful ascent of Kanchenjunga, he has now summited 13 of the world’s 14 highest peaks, leaving only Shishapangma to complete his goal before turning 20.
