Record-Breaking Female Ascent on Manaslu
Manaslu, Nepal – September 23, 2025
Mountaineering history was made on Tuesday as Ms. Tsang Yin Hung, known as Ada, from Hong Kong, completed the fastest recorded female ascent of Mt. Manaslu (8,163m). She reached the summit in just 18 hours and 53 minutes from Base Camp to the top.
Ada, already celebrated as the first woman from Hong Kong to summit Everest, began her climb from Base Camp at 18:03 on September 22. She was accompanied by Mr. Phurba Tenjing Sherpa, CEO of the expedition company and a veteran with 17 Everest summits to his name. En route, they were joined by Mr. Nima Gyalzen Sherpa at Camp 2 and later by Mr. Tenji Sherpa, forming a formidable climbing team. Together, they reached Manaslu’s summit at 12:56 on September 23.
Remarkably, Mr. Phurba Tenjing completed the entire ascent without supplementary oxygen, further underlining the achievement of the group. The climb was supported by weather updates provided by Mr. Davide Peluzzi of Italy and Mrs. Rojita Buddhacharya, based in the UK.
This achievement adds to Ada’s impressive mountaineering résumé. In 2021, she set the record for the fastest female ascent of Everest, completing the climb in 25 hours and 50 minutes. Though that mark was later surpassed by Ms. Phunjo Lama in 2024, Ada has now etched her name back into the record books on Manaslu.
The team has since returned safely to Base Camp, concluding a climb that will be remembered as a landmark in women’s high-altitude mountaineering.
