Third Everest 2021 Death as Sherpa falls in crevasse
A Sherpa climber from Sankhuwasabha has died after falling into a crevasse close to Camp 2 on Everest today, May 18th.
Pemba Tashi Sherpa fell while he was descending from Camp 2 to Camp I, he was part of the ‘Climbing The Seven Summits’ team handled by TAG Nepal Treks.
His body was pulled out from the crevasse just between the two camps and will be airlifted away as soon as possible.
He was a five-time Everest summiteer and a permanent resident of Sirijung Rural Municipality in the Sankhuwasabha district.
Harshvardhan Joshi: “Rest in peace Brother. I was privileged to have him as my personal Sherpa at Himlung Himal in 2019. Wish I could say goodbye to this good young man. May God give his loved ones strength, especially his three little children.”
It increases this season’s death toll on Mount Everest to three. Abdul Waraich of Switzerland, and Puwei Liu of USA, died during their descent from the summit on May 12th.
