First ascent on Sass Ciampac Pillar for Sieberer and Messner
Martin Sieberer and Simon Messner last week set a new route on the Tridentine Pillar of Sass Ciampac in the Dolomites.
Sieberer explained the climb;
First Ascents are always incredible. Especially when things work out after nearly throwing the towel. Last week Simon Messner and I climbed the line “Charlie Brown” up Tridentina Pillar of Sass Ciampac, a 300m wall east to the famous South Face.
“With difficulties up to VII/VII+, the crux in the upper part offers delicate, loose rock and little protection.”
Messner added;
“CHARLIE BROWN – a good new route up the right part of Sass Ciampac, Dolomites (Tridentina Pfeiler). Summer feelings during the climb and remains of winter on the descent.”
