Carlos Soria Becomes Oldest Person to Summit Manaslu at 86
History was made on Mount Manaslu (8,163m) this morning as legendary Spanish alpinist Carlos Soria reached the summit at 5:30 AM on 26 September 2025, becoming the oldest person ever to stand on the mountain’s peak.
At 86 years old, Soria has once again demonstrated that age is no barrier when paired with determination and passion. Over a lifetime dedicated to the mountains, from the European Alps to the high Himalaya, he has built a career that continues to inspire climbers across generations.
This latest success came with the support of the Seven Summit Treks team, including Mikel Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Phurba Sherpa, and Luis M. Soriano, whose guidance and teamwork helped make the ascent possible.
For Soria, the achievement is another milestone in a mountaineering journey that has long defied expectations. For the wider climbing community, it is a powerful reminder of what perseverance and spirit can achieve, no matter the age.
He is now making his descent from the mountain, with the world watching in admiration as he adds yet another chapter to his remarkable legacy.
