Everest 2021 Update – Colin O’Brady – 30th April

An Instagram update from Colin O’Brady on 30th April.

“We made it safely back to Base Camp this morning.

“We left Camp 2 around 6:30am as it’s best to descend the Icefall before too much sun warms it up. It took us three hours to descend from Camp 2 back to Base Camp. Already there are more ladders and wider crevasses in the Icefall than when we went up a few days ago.

“It seems particularly warm and dry here this year. I’m worried that many of the current snow bridges will melt and collapse as the season continues on.

“Nonetheless we made it back to Base Camp safely and will rest here for a few days now in the relatively thicker air of 17,400ft, before returning for another rotation on the mountain to sleep and acclimatize even higher.”
