Everest to see speed attempts in 2025
This Everest season, Swiss-Ecuadorian Karl Egloff and American Tyler Andrews are both attempting record-breaking speed ascents.
Tyler announced his attempt via his social media;
“IT’S EVEREST!
“So stoked to officially announced #ProjectHimalaya : #RunEverest
“I’ll be attempting to set a world record for fastest ascent of Mt Everest WITHOUT supplemental oxygen in May of 2025.”
While for Karl, an absence from the mountains is being ended in spectacular style;
“My philosophy in my projects has always been to complete the non-stop ascent and descent records in the mountains.
“After a few years of forced pause in my personal project and after a very hard preparation together with a wonderful team of experts, I would like to share with you that I am about to embark on a lifelong dream: Everest 8848m for the ascent and descent non-stop from the Nepalese base camp to the summit and back to the same starting point, without the help of artificial oxygen at any stage.
“There are many questions as to how this will be done and we will be sharing more details soon.
“For now, the important thing is to stay focused and energised, but most importantly to get back home safely. This will always be my top priority, without taking any risks and enjoying what I love most: feeling free in the mountains while giving my best.”
Karl will not be alone as his mentor, guide and ‘brother’ Nicolas Miranda will be leading the security team to achieve the feat.
