Shisha Pangma climbs ‘not allowed’

 

Shisha Pangma will not open to climbers this season.

Guide Moeses Fiamoncini wrote on his Social Media;

“After a period of 17 days waiting for a response on the possibility of climbing Shishapangma in Tibet, we have been informed that this year climbing will not be allowed in the region.”
“Now is the time to review our plans and redirect our energy to explore new challenges!”

The news will disappoint several climbers planning to climb the Chinese mountain this Spring including Naoko Watanabe from Japan, for whom this was to be his final peak of the 14 x 8,000m’s.

The planned rescue’s of several bodies will also have to wait another year.
