Nimsdai turns team around near Kanchenjunga summit
Nirmal Puja (Nimsdai), expedtition leader for the Elite Expedition team, has told of tough weather conditions high on Kanchenjunga for his rope-fixing team.
He shared the news on his social media;
“It has been extremely challenging fixing the route, to say the least!
“The conditions above camp have been extremely tough, with deep snow and challenging terrain—more crevasses than usual. We worked hard to set our lines and navigate the risks, skilfully avoiding avalanches while manoeuvring around rocks and the occasional snow drift.
“Just to let you know, we’ve fixed around 11,000m of rope from base camp to summit so far. Yesterday, we faced severe weather that forced us to turn back just 30–40 meters from the summit area.
“As the expedition leader, I had to balance the excitement of summit fever with the crucial responsibility of making safe decisions. In the end, we made the right choice to prioritise safety. 100% of the team is safe, and no one suffered any injuries.
“While it was a tough call, I couldn’t be prouder of how each team member performed over the past five days, especially during yesterday’s harsh conditions.
“We are now heading back to base camp to regroup and recharge before returning to tackle our unfinished business.
“Thank you for all your support! We’ll be back stronger and ready to finish the unfinished business soon.”
