Valery Babanov aims for Everest record

Professional IFMGA mountain guide and mountaineer Valery Babanov intends to become the oldest climber to summit Everest without oxygen.

The 59 years old, says he has been “preparing for this all my life” having been among the mountains for the past 40 years.

My name is Valery Babanov. I am a professional IFMGA mountain guide and mountaineer. I’ve been doing this for last forty years.

Valery details his climbing resume on his Social Media;

“During my career I have made more than 600 ascents in the mountains. More than 300 of them were in the 5th-6th category, in teams and pairs, in winter and in summer. Climbed the seven-thousanderss of Pamir and Tien Shan eight times. Two ascents were made in one day in high-speed “camp to camp” style ( Korzhenevskaya Peak – 7103m and Lenin Peak – 7134m).

“During this time, I climbed five peaks over 8,000 meters. Four of them without the use of supplemental, artificial oxygen. Of note: the ascents of Broad Peak (8047m) and Gasherbrum-1 (8068m) were on new routes.

“I’ve also climbed about 45 long routes of the highest difficulty in the Pamir, Tien Shan and abroad (Alps, Yosemite, Alaska, Himalayas) in summer and winter conditions in solo style. Some of these were first ascents.”

A climbing C.V that can not be argued with!

We wish him the best for Everest this season.
