Everest 2023 Updates โ€“ 17th May

Updates from 17th May from those aiming to climb high on Everest in 2023ย

Kenton Cool

At 0130 UK time, Kenton, @richardiceland and @dorjee.gyelzen summited Mount Everest, with Kenton achieving his 17th summit!! ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Conditions on the summit push were incredibly cold, leading to multiple tech failures with the tracker/comms going down.

They are now resting at Camp 4 before heading back down the mountain.

TOP OF THE WORLD. Mission Complete /1st Group โ€“ Everest and Lhotse.

I am hugely proud to say my teams have summited Everest and Lhotse. Every time I stand on the top of the world it is special.

For me and my @eliteexped brothers, there is nothing better than helping others achieve their new possible. People say Everest isnโ€™t a challenge anymore โ€“ thatโ€™s just not true. Climbing Everest takes determination, training, skills and expertise.

Huge congratulations to our summiters:

At Elite Exped we lead from the front โ€“ and Iโ€™m proud to say that once again I summitted and led the team all without oxygen.

Nimsdai

Some of my Elite Exped team and I were involved in rescuing a climber from another guiding company on our way down from our Everest summit.

We found the climber Capt Dipendra Singh khatri , from another team, at the South Summit of Everest (8,749m). The climber had been there overnight.

I am thankful to my clients Jack and Will Lundin, for releasing me and Pasang Jharok to go and help with this rescue. Thank you to @anyatraveler for releasing @guideyukta and @alasdair_mckenzie for releasing Ki Temba to help. Even though they have paid us to be their guide, our clients kindly released us to help in this rescue.

Together we brought the climber all the way down to Camp 4 (7,950m) and there we handed the climber into the care of two Sherpas from the other guiding company.

We are now all safe at Camp 2 โ€“ together with our clients who re-joined us at Camp 4. We understand the climber and Sherpas have not made it back to Camp 2 yet. We wish the rescued climber and the team the very best and all we hope for is that they are safe.

I am very proud of my @eliteexped team and clients โ€“ on the mountain we are all one community and we look out for each other.

Note: I have never charge a penny for all the rescues I have done & thatโ€™s also including my team from @eliteexped ( Annapurna, Kanchenjunga Everest x 2 )

Leaving someone behind isnโ€™t in the blood.

Throughout the night we followed with bated breath the reading of the GPS tracker Tomek had with him – at 7:00 am our time the device registered the desired height: 8848 m above sea level! Guess we don’t have to explain what this means..

There will be time for details, now the priority is to go down safely!

Please don’t stop keeping your fingers crossed – you can see for yourself how much they give!

And of course a huge congratulations to the whole team!!!

What a beautiful way to start the day!

Madison Mountaineering

10 Years on Mount Everest!

While we’re waiting in base camp, resting up, and looking for a weather window to make our summit push, we’re looking back at the last 9 years of Mount Everest expeditions. Undeniably, this is one that we look forward to year after year, and plan to do for many years to come! The friends made and memories shared combined with reaching the highest point on Earth make for countless memories that will not soon be forgotten.

Adventure Consultants

THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER
As many of you would have heard teams are now reaching the summit of Everest. This is great news and congratulations to all the climbers and teams who have made it. This year there are a huge number of climbers in Base Camp in part because uncertainty over the opening of the North side meant more climbers heading to Nepal. Teams climbing now means people are more spread out so queues at steep areas are less likely, which is great news. We’ve been waiting to have our high camps stocked after a very windy period meant no access to South Col. Our gear is now in place and we believe we have a solid weather window coming up. It looks like we’ll leave Base Camp soon and make our way up to Camp 2, recover a bit and then head up higher on the mountain for our summit attempt. One constant in the mountains is that plans change so we’ll reassess the weather before leaving Camp 2, we can always pause there if needed. The team are excited to finally be preparing to head out!

Everest Summit Success!
We are overjoyed to share the exhilarating news from our Everest expedition team! This morning, at approximately 10:45am, they triumphantly reached the summit of Mount Everest!
A historic moment was achieved by Yandy Martinez Nunez, a resilient climber hailing from Cuba but living in Iceland. Yandy Martinez Nunez has created history as the first Cuban to conquer the summit, accompanied by the exceptional guide Pasang Tenzing Sherpa an IFMGA guide. This summit marks Pasang Tenzing Sherpa 16th Everest triumphโ€”an incredible feat of endurance and mountaineering prowess!
Joining the summit party is John Warwick Dover from Australia, who reached the peak alongside with guide Danurbu Sherpa. Their determination and teamwork brought them to this extraordinary achievement.
Celebrations continue as Jason Ralph Ramsdel from the USA proudly stood atop Everest with his climbing guide Sangey Sherpa.
We congratulate the entire team for their remarkable achievements and the unwavering spirit they displayed throughout their journey. Each step, each challenge overcome, has led them to this unforgettable moment.
